Bowen Therapy
What is Bowen Therapy?
Bowen Therapy is a system of stimulating body reflexes with simple yet precise movements executed across muscles, nerves and connective tissue. This gentle contact causes the neuromuscular system to reset all related tension levels, promoting natural healing.
The Bowen Technique helps the body remember how to heal itself. Electrical impulses sent to the nervous system remind the body to regain normal movement in joints, muscles and tendons. This helps relieve muscle spasms and increase blood and lymph flow.
A Bowen Session
A Bowen treatment lasts about 30-45 minutes, and can be done through light clothing or directly on the skin. The treatment is pleasant as therapists use light cross-fibre man oeuvres of muscle, tendon or ligament with no forceful manipulation. There are frequent but very critical pauses throughout the treatment which allow the body time to integrate the stimulation and respond.
Some people feel shifts in their bodies during and after a Bowen session. While many experience immediate pain relief, improvement is just as likely to unfold over the next few days to a week.
Who can benefit from Bowen Therapy?
Just about everyone will benefit from a Bowen session. It has been found to provide gentle, fast and effective treatment for many conditions including:
